Children have the opportunity to enter for examinations to achieve accredited qualifications. Although this is entirely optional we do encourage participation – not only is the experience fun and exciting, it also gives the children a goal at each level of their training and provides them with a great sense of achievement.
The two dance examining boards are the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) and examinations start at Primary level. As the student progresses through the grades it may be of interest to note that Graded and Vocational Graded Examination in Dance at Level 3 have now been allocated points on the UCAS Tariff.
This means that candidates who have achieved a Pass or higher in a Level 3 qualification (Grades 6, 7, 8, Intermediate and Advanced Foundation) can use their RAD ballet examination result towards their points tariff when applying to University or a Higher Education institution in the UK. ISTD Modern and Tap students who achieve Grade 6 and/or Intermediate are also eligible to receive the same number of points as for the corresponding RAD exams.
The point allocation varies, based on the examination level and attainment band (pass classification). You can find the points tariff for each examination level and attainment band using the table below. For further details, please visit: http://ucas.com/students/ucas_tariff/tarifftables/#dance
